The MMDA has announced that the construction of an elevated u-turn at the C5-Kalayaan intersection will begin next month and is targeted to be completed by June of this year. According to BF, this option was taken as it is cheaper than constructing an underpass.

I think this will take place of the current ground level u-turn slot that vehicles (mostly jeepneys) heading towards EDSA use to cross C5, but I'm not sure. Just wondering why they didn't opt for a flyover on C5 crossing Kalayaan instead. I would've thought that that would have been a better option, traffic-wise, 'cos then you get rid of the need for any u-turn slot.
Anyway, here's the link to the article.

P.S. It's a slow news day today.

The proposed/(on-going?) C5-kalayaan Elevated U-turn fly over is a project not using a simple common sense.

Technically, it is an engineering fete to be proud of by the Filipinos!! Worlds First of it's kind!!

If only the technical committees of the Department have gathered more information of traffic situation on crowded cities like India, China, Indonesia, they can consider a more easy, cost-wise and non-disruptive traffic solutions.

One solution is to have a multilane roundabout right at the center of the main intersection (look at the aerial view and put a coin at centre). This a very economical solution and will also provide the same outcome of "no traffic stoppage". Circle is a divine shape that means "continuity". Same as our planet, it turns and turns.

Another solution is the "intersection deletion". This is common on the roads of Indonesia, India and China. This road diverting techniques takes out intersections and is feng-shui effective. It is sometimes called branching (roads are like the letter "Y")on which the "branched carriageway" are not on the direct collision with the traffic flow but on angled approach. This also save the traffic administrators their on site traffic equipments.

These simple geometrical approach for traffic solutions are purely a natural sense.

this is just too stupid, a straight flyover not only provides for two lanes unimpeded by eachother, BUT UTURN SLOTS UNDERNEATH EACH STARTING POINT OF THE FLYOVER. In other words a Flyover would provide two functions as opposed to a dumb , stupid, I-just-want-make-my-point-about-u-turn-slots-because-everybody-hates-it-and-my-man-ego-is-being-hurt-so-ill-spend-government-money-on-my-experiment U-TURN SLOT on KALAYAAN.

totally reverse transportation engineering...

haha, we'll have a take home exam about this later. i will gladly share my evaluation after the exam.
